How Does Wireless Internet Work? A easy Explanation of Computer Terminology

In this narrative I'll help you understand the rejoinder to a computer terminology question I find a lot of people asking: "How does wireless Internet work?".

Before I can rejoinder this question, I have to mention that there are two basic types of wireless Internet: a wireless Internet connection through a gismo called a router (this type of wireless Internet is called WiFi), and then there is wireless Internet entrance through the cell phone network.

Wireless routers are very base in homes, offices, and "wireless hotspots" like you find at coffee shops, airports, and elsewhere. These are basically just small electronic "boxes" that hook up to your Internet connection so you can share the connection between several computers, or plainly to give you the free time to place your computer wherever you want, and not just next to the cable or phone outlet.

The cell phone data network (wireless Internet through the cell phone network in other words) of course is very total -- pretty much everywhere where you can get a cell signal -- and can be used not only with a cell phone but also with a growing number of computers.

Now if you want to get in effect technical, these two types of wireless Internet work differently. But in a general sense, if you simplify things and elucidate them in a basic way that will make sense to the median person, they both work along the same general lines.

So how does wireless Internet work? One way to think of it is by comparing it to a conveyable phone.

With a conveyable phone, something most of us have in our home, the phone has two parts: a handset and a cradle.

The cradle gets plugged into the phone line -- the connection to the phone network -- and takes that connection and broadcasts it via radio waves more or less in all directions.

If the handset is within range of the signal, it picks up this signal and relays the telephone connection so you can make or receive a call.

Wireless Internet, either its via a cell network or a wireless router, works the same basic way: you have a connection to the Internet, which is sent out wirelessly to a receiver of some sort, very much like a conveyable phone cradle sends out the telephone connection to the handset.

The broadcast can come from a wireless router hooked up to a cable or Dsl Internet connection, or the broadcast can be from a cell phone tower hooked into the cell phone network and relaying the Internet connection.

On the other end you have a "handset", which is a receiver in a computer, smart phone, or other device. This could be a WiFi card in a laptop or desktop computer for the one type of wireless Internet, or a receiver in a cell phone or laptop using the cell data network.

I hope that makes sense.

Computer Network Overview

Computer networking or data communication is a most important part of the information technology. Today every business in the world needs a computer network for smooth operations, flexibly, instant communication and data access. Just imagine if there is no network communication in the university campuses, hospitals, multinational organizations and educational institutes then how difficult are to communicate with each other. In this article you will learn the basic overview of a computer network. The targeted audience of this article is the people who want to know about the network communication system, network standards and types.

A computer network is comprised of connectivity devices and components. To share data and resources between two or more computers is known as networking. There are different types of a computer network such as LAN, MAN, WAN and wireless network. The key devices involved that make the infrastructure of a computer network are Hub, Switch, Router, Modem, Access point, LAN card and network cables.

LAN stands for local area network and a network in a room, in a building or a network over small distance is known as a LAN. MAN stands for Metropolitan area network and it covers the networking between two offices within the city. WAN stands for wide area network and it cover the networking between two or more computers between two cities, two countries or two continents.

There are different topologies of a computer network. A topology defines the physical layout or a design of a network. These topologies are star topology, bus topology, mesh topology, star bus topology etc. In a star topology each computer in a network is directly connected with a centralized device known as hub or switch. If any computer gets problematic in star topology then it does not affect the other computers in a network.

There are different standards and devices in computer network. The most commonly used standard for a local area network is Ethernet. Key devices in a computer network are hub, switch, router, modem and access point etc. A router is used to connect two logically and physical different networks. All the communication on the internet is based on the router. Hub/Switch is used to connect the computers in local area network.

Hopefully, in this article you may have learnt that what a computer network is, how important it is in our lives, what are different network devices, standards, topologies and communication types.

How to Convert a Desktop Computer to WiFi

WiFi or wireless fidelity connection makes internet connection a lot more convenient. In this way, you can connect more computer to a wireless connection to anywhere in the house. The process is fairly easy as long as you have the right tools to use.

You need to make your desktop computer wireless ready first. While you can connect to a wireless router using an Ethernet cable, it is still better to connect using wireless signals as this is really the whole point of the process.

Wireless Internet Card Desktop

wireless internet card desktop

Unfortunately, most Desktop PCs are not yet wireless ready. If your computer belongs to them, you can purchase wireless card and install it in your mother board the same way you will install a memory card.

The next thing you need to do is to purchase a competent wireless router. This usually costs less than a hundred dollars for a decent brand. Once you have these ready, do the following steps:

Step 1: Place your router on an area where it can transmit signal to every part of the house easily. This should be next to your DSL or wireless internet adapter. If you are using DSL, you can remove the Ethernet connection that connects the modem to your desktop. Connect one end to the modem and the other end at the back port of the router.

Step 2: Now that your desktop is wireless ready, it should be able to pick up signals once you turn on the computer, router and modem. Turn the modem first and then the router and then your computer. Allow the router and modem to process the connection first.

Step 3: Do some configurations to your wifi connection. Log on to the IP address of your router settings, input password and username and then change SSID settings and password settings to make it more secure. Now that you have wireless connection, other computers can enter your local area connection.

Step 4: Save the changes you made and then click log off router settings. You can connect as many computers as you can. As long as it is wireless ready, it will already pick up signal. Just input the router password to the other computers and you should be able to connect to the computer.

Just follow these steps in converting your desktop PC into a computer that is wireless ready. Be able to experience the benefits of connecting and communicating with other computers without the cumbersome and restricting cables and wires.

Buying a Computer Mouse - Corded Vs Wireless

A computer mouse may be a very small device but it is a very important computer component. Together with the keyboard, a mouse is indispensable in navigating computer programs and surfing the Internet.

Computer mice come in many shapes, sizes and colors. Some mice are built for large hands and others are designed for smaller hands. Many modern mice are endowed with multiple colors and stylish designs that make them visually appealing. A lot of optical mice light up like Christmas trees when attached to the computer. Other mice are conservative in looks but endowed with more powerful features. There are also the corded mice and the wireless mice.

Wireless Internet Card Desktop

wireless internet card desktop

A corded mouse is attached to your computer using a PS2 connector or via a free USB port. A wireless mouse is, as its name suggests, cordless. It comes with a small transmitter that is attached to your computer via a USB port. The transmitter determines both the cursor movements and the maximum distance a wireless mouse can be placed from the computer without losing its functionality.

Many consumers are drawn to the wireless computer mouse. Cord-free, a wireless mouse can be placed anywhere so long as it is within the range of its transmitter. Unlike corded mice, wireless mice can be moved about without being hampered or limited by wires and cables. A wireless mouse coupled with other wireless devices will make a computer table more neat and organized.

On the down side, wireless mice need batteries to run. If your wireless mouse sees heavy use, its batteries will drain faster and you will need to replace it constantly. Make sure to keep some spare batteries ready so you will not be left without a mouse.

Corded mice, on the other hand, enjoy a constant power supply. With corded mice, you have no batteries to maintain. They will stay on and functional as long as your computer is powered up and running.

Being a more recent technology, wireless mice are usually more expensive than corded mice but the difference is not great. Cost is not a very big factor to consider when choosing between a wireless mouse and a corded mouse.

If you can deal with the periodic replacement of batteries, a wireless mouse will work well for you and keep your table clutter-free. If you do not mind the cord and wiring, a corded mouse will work for you just fine. It will not die out on you and stay on so long as your computer is also on.

The Advantages of Using Broadband Cards For Your Laptop Computer

Chances are, if you have a laptop, you will want to have all the conveniences associated with your desktop. In particular, you may want to be able to access the internet. Without a question, if you have high speed internet access at home, you will also want similar services when you are traveling. While you may be able to take advantage of public WIFI hotspots, it may also be to your advantage to purchase laptop broadband cards, so that you can log in whenever you want.

If you look at a diagram of how a broadband repeater hub works, you may feel very confused by it. That said, you will not need to know any of these details in order to install a broadband card. For the most part, all you will need to do is connect the card to your laptop, and then select an appropriate software driver. You may even find that this installation process is much easier than installing video games on your PS2.

Wireless Internet Card Desktop

wireless internet card desktop

In many cases, you will also find that switching cards on your laptop is much easier than it would be for a desktop. Among other things, most laptop broadband cards are simple usb devices. At the same time, the antenna, router, and main hardware is built right into your laptop. While it is not easy to upgrade a laptop, at the very least you won't have to delve into the internal structure in order have broadband internet access.

As you may be aware, these cards act as a key that will allow you to interface with an ISP that will enable you access all the global resources of the internet. At the same time, you are bound to appreciate the convenience of being able to log onto the internet from almost any location in the world. Chances are, you can even surf online from the middle of a desert, or even a jungle.

Unfortunately, high speed internet access is beyond the budget of many people. As a result, you may find yourself having to choose between cable access for your home computer, and wireless access for your laptop. Depending on how comfortable you are with your laptop, you may just want to use it for all your computing needs.

Among other things, you can always carry a larger keyboard with you, as well as a mouse. That said, many peopel manage to adapt to the cramped space of a laptop keyboard and touch pad system. On the other hand, if you work a great deal with image editing, it may also be to your benefit to invest in a graphing tablet for use on these occasions.

Today, many people need to have access to the internet while they are away from home. If you do not purchase laptop broadband cards, chances are you will have to rely on dial up access. Even though you can function with this type of access, there is nothing like the ease, speed, and convenience of wireless internet access.

Parts needed to build their own desktop computer

Build your own PC, you can save a lot of money and leave the computer to the technical specifications necessary to adapt in order to increase performance.

Motherboard

Wireless Internet Card Desktop

wireless internet card desktop

This is the main component of a computer. And 'the types of basic elements (form) to connect all other components. There are many different types of motherboards out there, but not all the same, there are several CPUs (Central Processing Unit) did. So when you pick up yourMotherboard to make sure that the CPU is compatible with the motherboard.

CPU

The central processing unit is the most important member of the household that manages all data. The CPUs in all shapes and sizes of the old 32-bit on the new 64-bit processors are now, but also with the new methods are as long as you have multi-core processes duel core, quad core, and the last hex core .

RAM

Random Access Memory is whereall temporary data is stored before being saved on the hard disk or from memory when no longer needed. The more memory you have reduced your computer on how often the data necessary for accessing the hard disk and, in turn, makes the computer must be located more quickly. The last type of RAM DDR3 (double data rate 3) of the old standard was DDR2, but most systems will use the new way to dramatically improve system performance.

PSU

Supply Unit, which is the component that gives the power to all connected components. The force is on the hard drive, DVD / CD / Blu Ray driver and the other connected devices. In some cases, the graphics card will need a minimum output power for the card to work to their full potential. There are different types of PSU more support 64-bit processors, but some old power supply does not have the correct cable to power a 64-bit processor.

Graphics Card / Graphics> Map

Motherboards most up-to-date they have built in video / graphics card, but these are not the best you can get what you are, but unless you're playing on the calculation of these games should be fine. If you are picking a new video / graphics card you need, select the new PCI-Express card since the new motherboards with these is no longer the AGP (Advanced Graphics Port) is now obsolete.

Most common serious riders have 7200 rpm (revolutions per minute), which is fast enough for everyone, but they are still out there quickly. The size of the hard disk is 40 gigabytes, which is really small these days to over 1 terabyte and 2.

CD / DVD / Blu Ray Disc

This The drivers are not really needed as such, because you can install Windows from a USB stick or other external device. These drivers may be compatible, which means a DVD can play CDs and a blue ray driver all play by them. Speed drivers are normal as shown by the numbers x and 52x. This shows the speed of reading and writing are other numbers like these, which seem so "32xRW" This is the rewrite speed of the disc.

How to synchronize your laptop and desktop computer

If you're like me you have both a desktop computer at work and then a laptop when you are away from the office, you undoubtedly know, what can be a frustrating experience.

To create a file, while outside on the street, then go home and somehow send to your computer. Maybe you save on a memory stick and transfer it. Or by e-mail for you. Or use a complex arrangement of cables and software to get your two computers to each lessonothers.

Wireless Internet Card Desktop

How did you do, is not ideal.

However, the problem could be even more annoying than vice versa. If you are traveling and you need a file from home, make you forget that it can be more frustrating.

Fortunately, although I recently found a solution to this problem is simple, effective, and perhaps most exciting of all - free.

I just started Dropbox software, you can download without paying a cent. This softwarecreates a virtual link between two (or more) computers. All you do is drag a file in the "links" and is immediately available to the other computer.

When you create a file on the road that you made from your home, simply save the file to the Dropbox folder and start the synchronization. When you turn on your computer, the file will be downloaded directly via the Internet, without lifting a finger, so it is ready for you.

Mobile Computing - The vehicle computer (computer)

Do you want internet access on the move? Connect with your Bluetooth phone and internet to get anywhere you have signal. Lost? Use a Bluetooth GPS module and GPS software to navigate a way out. I just want to play music and videos? No problem, install a frontend like Centrafuse and have at it.

Hardware

Wireless Internet Card Desktop

The setup I have right now consists of an AMD Geode processor at 1.4 GHz with 256 MB of DDR RAM and 30 GB 2.5? Hard drive. TheThe screen is a 7? Lilliput motorized touch screen and power is a Opus 120W. The whole setup fits in my glove compartment. The motherboard is a mini-ITX form factor and size is 7? x 7?. The power supply is right next to the motherboard and hard drive is backed by the power in the small corner crack. Then there is a USB 2.0 hub with its own power supply in order to connect bluetooth, wireless keyboard, etc.

OS

The operating systemSystem is TinyXP Rev. 06 TinyXP is basically a small Windows XP. The entire installation takes up only 400 MB and uses only 40 MB of RAM. Even with only 256 MB of RAM, the computer still boots incredibly fast. Objects on the Windows desktop, it takes less than 15 seconds! Watch the video below for a demonstration.

Peripheral / Addons

To receive the internet, usually tape the phone to the computer via Bluetooth. I'm using a Treo 755p with PdaNetinstalled to connect the computer speed is quite good, while tethering with the Sprint EVDO network, but is close to nothing spectacular. Web pages take to load an additional 2-3 seconds, but nothing special.

For navigation I use TomTom MKII bluetooth receiver SiRFstarIII chipset. The software side includes iGuidance v4 which uses Navteq maps. The GPS navigation system is quite accurate and comes with a ton of POI.

802.11 wireless communicationmanaged by a Zonet ZEW-2500P USB 2.0 card. It has a Ralink chipset that can inject packets and is therefore compatible with many spread of wireless devices available today. Finally, I want Wi-Fi card with a Fonera running at 24 / 7 mode client to replace AutoAP residence. (There is always a lack of em) in this way, the Fonera will open automatically connect to wireless networks, and allows me to remote controlLa Fonera to the Internet. I could have run with Wake on LAN (WOL) on the computer I'm also thinking about using a USB switch module for different characteristics of the car, such as remote start, alarm arm / disarm control, lock / unlock, etc. This means that the car literally be controlled from the Internet!

Want to listen to music or movies? No problemo. Centrafuse front end as the user with a nice interface with large buttons that compliment the touchscreenand fat fingers:). Within the user interface, you can play music, watch movies, check the weather, launch a web browser, and more.

Input is handled by a MadCatz wireless keyboard, which is generally associated with the PS3. However, there is nothing special installation and works well when used with a computer. I like it because I do not have to carry around a bulky keyboard and can be concealed very easily.
